Backup Verification failed because of backup window?

Why would the backup verification process be limited by the backup window setting? Verification doesn't touch the server being backed up.

Got an Agent job that just threw this at me. The actual backup was quick and successful, then started a health check, but dumped it when the Backup Window closed. Bug or feature?

It's documented behavior.

The backup window affects only the data transport process and health check operations

But even documented behavior can be a bug... full discussion here - improvements are planned
