Backupserver Configuration Database on SQL Server

Post by steri »

Hi,

my Veeam Backupserver is not domain joined. I would change the configuration database from sql express to the SQL Server.
Can i use the windows authentication for this because i can not set domain user credentials, only local accounts or should i have to use the sql authentication method ?

Thanks for your help

Ok, then i will use the windows authentication.
Whats the requirements to do on the SQL Server? Create local Windows Account that i use to connect from Veeam to SQL ?

Right. Don't forget about necessary permissions.

Sorry, it is not that straightforward as I initially assumed. You need to use two accounts with the same sAMAccountName and password: a local one on the backup server to run Veeam B&R services and a domain account to authenticate on the SQL server in a domain where SQL server resides, e.g.:

Veeam B&R server: VBRSERVER\vbrsvcacc (local account)
SQL Server: DOMAIN\vbrsvcacc (AD account)

The latter should have all the required permissions on the SQL Server.
