BBDD job execution order

Post by davicillo »

Good Morning,
We have set up a job with a number of machines in an Oracle database environment. Is there any recommendation to execute the backup in a certain order?, that is, back up the VMs that have the database first and then those that have the application and the logs. Or viceversa

Thanks

Hello,
what does the application owner say about order?

Normally it should be irrelevant because the application is usually static and "the truth" is only in the database.

What do mean with "logs"? Is it about Oracle log shipping configured in the application aware image processing settings?

Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks for your quick response.
Actually it was just an example, I meant
VMs other than those that are the DBs.
So, I understand that the order does not matter. Veeam is capable of performing an application-consistent backup regardless of the order in which they are processed. Shouldn't an interval between machines be established?

application consistency is done "per machine". So the order of machines is irrelevant for a backup software that is vm-based (e.g. Veeam in this case). But depending on the application, it can make sense to back up several machines timely close to each other. For example a database and a file server where the database only stores the links to the file server.
