Best Practices backup

Post by gonza »

Hi, I would ask all that you have more experience with Veeam Backup. With a group of heterogeneous servers (Windows 2003, Windows 2008, Linux, SQL, Oracle, Exchange, Active Directory, Citrix) that you recommend me. Back up one machine at a time or by groups or functions Operating System (Database Server for example).

What is better when I restore a backup of a virtual machine or a file?

Hello, we recommend grouping the VMs running the same operating system together for better deduplication. Also, you may not want to create very large jobs to keep backup files size manageable (and you determine this size yourself, depending on where are you backing up to, and whether you have requirements of off-site backup).

Restore functionality is not affected by how you organize your backup jobs.

Thanks Gostev. Currently I do backups grouped by OS, but I wondered whether it was right to do so.
