Best way to setup file copy/file share backup remote sites.

Post by MBMSG2020 »

Hello there,

I have the following scenario:

Unsupported Database server that creates daily backup files on VEEAM Server at Remote Site. Keeps 7 days of files, automatically deletes files older then 7 days.
VEEAM Server Remote Site
VEEAM Server Local Site with Tape Backup

What i want is that those files at the remote site, also get stored daily on the local site, and once a week on tape at the Local site.

Currently we use Arcserve Replication for transferring the files from the Remote site to the Local site. It only transfers the changes thus saves a lot of data traffic.

Is such a setup also possible with VEEAM?

Can we set this up with File Copy tasks?
Will it copy only the new files and skip the ones already there or will it do a full copy every day thus cause much traffic?

Can we set this up with File Share Backup?

What would be our best solution? With the least amount of traffic?

Thanks for reading.

Hello Martijn,

You can use:

1. File copy job - that's not a backup, basically you are copying files from one location to another according to the schedule and that's it.
2. NAS backup aka file level backup for these files. That's going to be a backup job which provides all sorts of side integrations and advanced functionality for example backup copy jobs or sending backups to tape.
3. File to tape jobs can be considered as option if you want to land files directly to tape.
4. Another option could be to backup the entire machine where these files are stored with VM backup or agent backup, but that depends on the platform where you store the data and if you have access to the machine on the guest or hypervisor level.

Hope it helps, thank you!
