Browsing vcenter from Veeam takes a very long timg

Post by mazeking »

Connecting to and browsing Vmware vCenter from Veeam B&R takes a very long time. This occurs every time I need to login to Veeam to reconfigure some vCenter backup jobs. As soon as I have connected to vCenter the first time in a sessions further vcenter browsing goes much faster, but if i log out of veeam and then log in again, browsing vCenter from veeam takes a very long time.

Why does this happen? Is Veeam really slow in precaching all object in vcenter or has it something to do with DNS or other settings?

vCenter communications are generally not fast due to API limitations, and it becomes even worse if vCenter is overloaded, serving large infrastructure, or overloaded. I've been pushing devs for caching vCenter data in our configuration database for quite some time now, so hopefully this will happen eventually ;)

OK. So this is a well known issue on many Veeam - vCenter configurations? Nice to know :-)

Depends on how long is "a very long time" in your definition.
