Calculate estimated backup size for Backup and Replication
Dear Community,
I am sizing a backup and replication for a customer.
I would like to know how to estimate the storage used for the following scenario:
1. Backup
Total size of VM: 18TB
1 Full backup per week
6 Incremental daily
Retention points: 7
2. Replication to another ESXi host.
Total size of VM: 18TB
Retention points: 7
(Servers are all running Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012.)
For the hardware for backup storage, I am proposing Dell NX3240.
Disregarding the hardware dedupe, how do I estimate the capacity use of the storage, based on Veeam's de-duplication.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Re: Calculate estimated backup size for Backup and Replication
For the backup chain, you can perform an estimation based on the restore point simulator.
As partner you can find it within the partner portal. Same version can be found as well here: http://rps.dewin.me/
For the VM replication:
It depends on the settings, but you need at least same amount of space as the original VM takes on disk + the data that change between the replication cycles multiplied with the restore points + one of these incremental points temporary (write the new restore point before the oldest get deleted).

Re: Calculate estimated backup size for Backup and Replication
Hi Bilal, the tool has the 'Time Growth Simulation' option that I guess is what you're looking for. If you need the formula, you can take the one mentioned here as the basis for your calculations. Thanks!
