Calculating digests Backup Copy

Sometimes I see that some Backup Copy jobs start calculating disk digests for some VMs before processing the disks. I cannot tie this behavior to any action and it seems random. The jobs are successful but the ones which decide that they should calculate the digests take longer and I would like to know what can I do to avoid it.

The target and source WAN acc have 200GB Cache size.

Vlad, this sounds like a known issue: when some of the disks were not entirely transferred during the job run, digests for those disks that were transferred successfully will be re-calculated during the next job run. To be absolutely sure whether this is the case, we need to review the log files.

But every backup copy job was successful and all disks got transferred.

Under this message I also see "Digests are missing on source, loading them from target".

I will also open a support case for this if you think there may be other issues.

Yes, this would be the most effective way of addressing this.

Yes, there were some fixes around digests re-calculation introduced in patch 4:

WAN Acceleration
• Increased source WAN accelerator digests retention to 2 months to avoid digests recalculation every week.
