Can you change a remote repository from windows to CIFS
Hi All,
I created a repository for backupcopy jobs to go to a remote repository. These backupcopy jobs are now running smoothly, however I now realise that it would be better for me to have made this a CIFS repository (so that I can keep separate Veeam backup servers from being able to see each other's data. So is it possible to change my remote repository type from windows server to CIFS and keep all my backupcopy jobs that have already been uploaded.
thanks

Geoff, there's no way to change repository type, you have to re-create it.
That said, could you please elaborate on why do you need to do this at all? Aren't you able to implement access control via Windows folder permissions? Windows type repository allows to have Veeam agent installed on it so that transformation is performed locally on it (not via network, as in case of CIFS type repo).

Re: Can you change a remote repository from windows to CIFS
Hi Foggy,
I want to have remote repositories where for each there is a non administrator user account credentials used to access only that repository. I tried taking admin rights away from the user that I am testing now but it complains that it can't access the hidden admin share when I try a backup.
thanks

You might want to go a slightly different way, should work.

Re: Can you change a remote repository from windows to CIFS
Thanks again Foggy,
One last question relating to this. Is the reason why it is not reccomended to have a remote (over Wan) repository type as CIFS because the compact or transformations of the full jobs would have to take place on the local windows server, in other words the data would have to be sent over the wire and back or something of that nature?
thanks
