Cannot upgrade Veeam Backup from 11 to 12

Hello,

We want to update Veeam Backup & Replication from v11 to v12. But it shows this error: "Unable to connect SQL Server BACKUPSRV01\VEEAMSQL2012. Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'NT-AUTORITÄT\SYSTEM', error code 0x534. Impersonating execution context to SID:0x01xxxxxxxxxx. Impersonating execution context to user."

I thought, it can't connect the database using WIndows Authentication, I tried with MS SQL Management Studio, I could connect the database with WIndows Authentication.

Could you please help me to solve this problem? Many thanks.

Hi Elvin,

The provided number is a support contract ID and not a case ID.

Please note this not a support forum though, we cannot analyze technical issues effectively over forum posts without having access to your infrastructure via remote session and without examining debug logs. I'm sure that our support engineers will help you to sort out the problem soon, but please provide an actual support case ID as requested when you create a new topic about a technical issue, otherwise, the topic will be eventually deleted by the forum moderator.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. We have a Basic Support for this ID, that's why we can't create a support case. I don't know how we can contact Veeam and ask for a solution of this problem. Could you please help us?

Hi
Logging in with Windows Authentication isn't the same as logging in with NT-AUTORITY\SYSTEM.
Check in SQL under Security > Login if you find that user/group in the list and what access it has. If you can't find it there, you need to add it and give it the correct permissions to the database.

Better to create a new user (windows) and add it to the SQL security login section. Specify that user in the update process.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. When I try to create a case, it shows "Your login is not currently a License or Case Administrator for this Support ID, please contact your License Administrator".

In SQL under Security > Login, I found 'NT-AUTORITÄT\SYSTEM'.
Under "Server Roles", it has "public" and "sysadmin" roles.
Under "User Mapping", it has "VeeamBackup" database already assigned to it.

What additional persmission should I give to 'NT-AUTORITÄT\SYSTEM'?

The persmissions look ok, but when you search for the error the suggestion is to remove & re-add the user.

As mentioned earliers, This is not a support forum. Try to log a case regarding your login to be added to this support ID.
So you log also a proper ticket regarding this problem

I have removed and readded the user, now the update is working. Thank you for your help and time.
