Change backup server time/date - backups behaviour

Post by StanoSedliak »

Hi,

do someone from you have experience with this situation:
If a hacker would change time/date on the backup server and in Veeam B+R you have under retention xy-days and in Veeam o365 retention 1 year.
If the date would be changed +1year for example, would the backups in Veeam B+R expired, unless one Full backup?
Veeam o365 would the backups also expired?

Thank you!

Hi Stano

Yes, backups on both products would expire.
Changing the time on the backup server and on repositories will lead to early deletion of backup data. We don‘t check an external time service when the retention get‘s applied.
That‘s why it is important to protect the backup server, repository server and also your NTP servers against any unauthorized access attempts.
