Change Reverse Incremental to Incremental

What would be the impact of changing a Backup job from Reverse Incremental to Incremental?

Back when we were a smaller shop, we set most backup jobs to Reverse Incremental since our backup window was fairly small.
Fast forward to now when we have doubled the amount of VM we backup and we are looking to hopefully buy back some time. If we flip a few jobs from Reverse to regular incremental, would that need to take a full backup of each VM in that job or will it just result in a bunch of disk time to roll the full?

Full backup will not be required, the forward incremental chain will start from the latest full backup in you current chain (the next restore point after the switch will be incremental).
