Change target host and WAN accelerator IP

Post by parvez_khp »

Dear Team,

Is it possible to change the target host (ESXi) and target WAN accelerator IP addresses without compromising the existing replication backup? What is the best practice to follow?
Your guidance will be highly appreciated.

Hello Parvez

If your ESXI host and WAN Accelerator was added to the backup server through FQDN, then changing the IP address is an easy process.
Disable your replica job. Change the IP address of the ESXI host and WAN Accelerator, wait for DNS to resolve the FQDN to the new IP address. Then start your replica jobs again.

Dear Fabian,

Thank you for your response. What is the proper procedure if it is not added through FQDN?

Hi Parvez

Then you can use the method in this KB to change the IP address:
https://www.veeam.com/kb1905

I strongly recommend to use FQDN. Makes every migration to new subnets a lot easier.

Dear Fabia,

Thank you for sharing the link with me. I followed the instructions provided in the KB1905 article and successfully changed the IPs of the managed servers. I can see that the changes have been reflected in the managed servers section. However, I noticed that in the WAN Accelerators and Backup proxies sections, the NAME is still showing the OLD IP address while the HOST is displaying the new IP address. How can I change it?

Hi Parvez

Unfortunately, the steps in the KB to not change the name of a component. It only affects properties of the managed server.
There is an unsupported way with SQL queries in the configuration database. But I cannot provide you with the instructions for it. Changes to the configuration database are only supported with our support team involved. You can try with a support case and ask if they can assist you to change the name of the component in the configuration database.

A test you can try before contacting support. Have you tried to delete a VMware proxy from the configuration and then re-add it?
