Hello, I have a "problem" with my backups.
I've changed my backup type from forever forward incremental to reverse incremental, to have a better tape behaviour (archiving to tape weekly only latest restore point... impossible actually with forward incrementals), and I've found that my restore point retention is growing over the limit. It was previously 15 r.p. I have reduced to 12 r.p. retention, but I have 17 restore points. So veeam is not merging oldest incremental into full backup of that incremental chain and is doing new reverse incremental points...
What will happen??? When will it delete "old" incremental restore points????
REgards.
Dave.

Re: Changed backup type and now is not merging oldest r.poin
It should happen, as soon as retention is reached by current reversed incremental chain. In other words, when there are 1 .vbk and 11 .vrbs. The oldest restore point has not been deleted, because increments that are dependent on it are still present. Thanks. What will happen??? When will it delete "old" incremental restore points????

Re: Changed backup type and now is not merging oldest r.poin
Aha, then it will not merge anymore incrementals??
It will delete all entire chain when 12 (or the number I select) restore points of actual backup type are reached, is that right??
Thanks
Dave.

Re: Changed backup type and now is not merging oldest r.poin
It will inject new increments inside a .vbk file (the latest restore point). That's the way reversed incremental mode works.Aha, then it will not merge anymore incrementals??
In the meantime, old .vib and .vbk files will stay intact, since you've disabled forward forever incremental mode.
Correct. It will delete all entire chain when 12 (or the number I select) restore points of actual backup type are reached, is that right??
Thanks.

Actually, this is possible with the help of synthesized fulls to tape.Dave338 wrote:I've changed my backup type from forever forward incremental to reverse incremental, to have a better tape behaviour (archiving to tape weekly only latest restore point... impossible actually with forward incrementals)
