Changing away from VMware

Post by tom11011 »

Hi Group,

I help manage the infrastructure of a smaller company who runs vmware. They are concerned about Broadcom's recent announcement during the acquisition of vmware that their "focus for vmware would be on global enterprise" which means de-prioritization of smaller companies, as well as the end of perpetual licensing in favor of a subscription model.

This is a smaller company with about 10 pservers in the main data center and 8 pservers in the backup datacenter.

I have been instructed to begin looking at different virtual solutions. For those of you making the change away from vmware but are staying with Veeam for backup and replication needs, where are you heading?

After VMware, next most popular hypervisor among Veeam users has been Hyper-V and I expect most SMB will give this one a fair go before considering anything else.
