Changing retention policy

Post by storageguy »

Hi,

Our current backup jobs has a retention policy of 14 days that goes to an old storage repository.
Now that we have a new storage with enough capacity, we would like to move our backup data using the seal mode to the new storage repository and at the same time changing the retention policy from 14 to 1 year.

My question is:
Does the old retention policy of 14 days still in effect on the old restore points (.vbk and .vib), or the new retention policy of 1 year will be applied to the old restores points as well?

I want to know because if the new retention policy of 1 year will also be applied to the old restore points, then I won't change it not until the last restore points is expired so that I can decommission our old storage right away after 14 days.

Thanks

Hello,
note: sealed mode keeps data where it is. there is no "move"

The new retention is only applied to new backups.

Having only 14 days of backup is a great design to easily change hardware (well, also software) đź‘Ť

Best regards,
Hannes

Good to know that old backups will still keep the 14 days retention and the new backups will use the new retention. We can decom our old hardware right away.
Thanks @HannesK
