Changing Storage Optimization Level and Affects of Refs

Hello and Good Day Team....

I have been running several forever incremental jobs, on a Windows 2016 Refs enabled repository. I do synthetic fulls weekly, for I have a 183 day restore point job. So far, so good. (knock on wood). I am noticing my increments are a bit large in size, and would like to reduce them if I could. The most obvious thing I see is I have been using the "Local Target" Storage optimization setting.I was thinking of changing it to "LAN Target" So before I test this, I ask this of the community:

1. Do changing this force me to do an active full?

2. What impacts, if any, does this have on ReFs? I know Active Fulls don't "talk" ReFS, so I need to truly have space for the Active Full. But I assume so far as ReFs goes, it business as usual from that point out?

Thanks!

Harold

Hello,

1. New settings will be applied after running new full backup > Changing Storage Optimization

2. Don't think there is an impact, but I can double-check it for you. If there is any impact I will update this topic in the next few days.

Thank you!
