CIFS Repository - Requirements - machine

Veeam Logoby bjas » Thu Dec 14, 2017 1:00 pm

Hello...

I have a question about CIFS share on a Storage that is connected to a physical windows server.

Should the physical server be added to Veeam Backup & Replication Server under managed servers for the solution being supported by Veeam.

What consequences will there be if the server is not added to the Veeam Backup & replication server? Performance? Other things ?

Will it be possible to have 2 different data volumes on the same storage with a backup repository in each where the one volume is a CIFS Share and the second volume serves as the Backup repository for Cloud Connect

Thanks in advance..

Hi,

if you want to specify the Windows server as a gateway for that particular CIFS share then you have to add it in VBR console beforehand. If you choose to stay on automatic gateway selection option, then the gateway will be chosen automatically by VBR, which might result in non-optimal selection and decreased data transfer performance, especially in case of CIFS share being located far from the gateway.

Will it be possible to have 2 different data volumes on the same storage with a backup repository in each where the one volume is a CIFS Share and the second volume serves as the Backup repository for Cloud Connect
Yes, it is possible.

Thanks
