Clean up replication backup + restore points.

Post by cag »

If completed the first replication of my 3 VM to a host with 1TB of disk space.
I also completed 3 additional replications of 2 of the vm'S

under replications I can view the size of restore points. some restore points are 45GB in size.

How do I maintain diskspace using the veam product or will I run out in my first week. ?

Veeam states there is only 79GB free.
The 3 VMs are 180GB + 180GB + 290GB = 650GB.

Reduce the amount of restore points to keep in your replication job settings.

I have set to 3 but with only 79GB free after 3 days seems this is not enough space. I thought replication with Change Block tracking and depulication would help.
With some of the restore points of 45GB leaves me to think CBT is not working. I know 45GB did not change on the VM's. 2 of the servers are not used. Testing servers with no activity.

The replication claims to be using CBT but I dont understand what is happening. still I should have more space left.

Ok the problem is that I have 2 files for every VM disk

eg. VM1 vdisk = disk1.vmdk and also another file called disk1_working.vmdk

why does veeam create 2 copies of the same file. No wonder I have no disk space. 2 copies should = 2 full replica's.

Hello Conrad,

Every subsequent pass after a full replication run is incremental. You may want to choose WAN target to reduce the size of the VRB files.

As for working.vmdk disk, then this is just a virtual disk descriptor.

Should more details be required, please take a look a this thread: Replica is taking 2x disk space?

Thanks!
