Cloning / Templating VBR server
Howdy, Happy Holidays!
I have a client that has many branch offices which all have independent VBR environments. My challenge is: How can I create a "template" of the VBR server which could be deployed via OVA or Content Library? Each server would get a new hostname and IP, otherwise identical. We'd configure the repositories and proxies after configuration.
I've tried this before and it seems like the database or registry causes issues?
THX,
-John

Re: Cloning / Templating VBR server
Hi John,
Yes, having the same installation ID (generated automatically) for backup servers will mess up the integration with VSPC/Veeam ONE/EM/usage reporting, so cloning backup servers is not recommended. If I were you, I would just script the installation or use VSPC to do that for you, since you're going to configure repositories and jobs later anyway.
Thanks!

Create a template.
Drop the applicable ISO into your template.
Create a quick script to install VBR in unattended mode. Place that on your template.

You could also use something like Chocolatey to do it.

Maybe not perfectly unattended cradle to grave, but a fair amount of it could be setup to quick click if needed.

@tjuergens
I recommend to use the new silent installer from v12.1 (unofficially available since v12.0).
Our silent installer with an answer file requires only a single command to install all required components. While the old unattended install mode requires you to install each component with a dedicated command in the right order
