Cloud backup space running low.
I'm currently running very low on my Cloud Storage Disk space. I have backup copy jobs set to run daily, with two of my File Servers set to keep quarterly backups for an entire year (4 full backups). I was advised previously to keep 31 restore points, but I seem to be ending up with 72 or 87 restore points depending on the server. As long as I have my full quarterly backups then Probably don't need more than a month's worth of restore points. Any idea why I'm ending up with so many restore points, or how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Cloud backup space running low.
Hello,
is it possible that you configured the backup copy job with "read entire restore point..." checkbox enabled (active full)?
72 or 87 sounds strange... because for quarterly backup it should be about 119 incremental restore points for active full backup copy jobs.
The exact configuration for the backup copy job would be helpful to find the reason for the amount of restore points.
To save disk space: REFS / XFS is also a good idea https://www.veeam.com/blog/advanced-ref ... suite.html
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Cloud backup space running low.
Hannes,
I did have the option checked for "Read the entire restore point from source backup instead of synthesizing it from increments. I have now unchecked this. I assume that I can still keep my four quarterly backups? Can you please elaborate further on what the difference is in using or not using this option? I'm a little cloudy on the details. Thanks.

Re: Cloud backup space running low.
Hello,
the easiest way is to click on "manual run" on http://rps.dewin.me and simulate it.
Sure, your quarterly backups will be there. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100 and following pages describe both ways of retention. It has nothing to do with cloud. It's just how the backup copy job works.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Cloud backup space running low.
Thank you Hennes for a detailed answer. Yesterday at home in Portugal I was trying to do a backup and had a similar error. Now I know that it's not a cloud problem and will try to do it again today. I will write back here if there are any further issues in my case.
