Compacting backups with per-vm backup files
Hi!
Will enabling per-vm backup files help fight the big temp file caused by backup file compact?
If so, will the backup files will be compacted parallel or sequentially (or perhaps both) ?

Re: Compacting backups with per-vm backup files
In v9, compact operations for every backup file are performed sequentially, after all data transfer operations are completed. v9.5 will introduce parallel compact operations.

Re: Compacting backups with per-vm backup files
So let's say if I had a 1TB backup file which contains 5x200GB VMs, theoritically 200GB should be enough free space for compact temp file when I enable per-vm backup files? ?

Theoretically, yes.

That is for the regular backup jobs, btw. Backup copy compact is done in parallel in v9, I believe.

Thank you, this helped!
Btw, how can I cancel compact job that has already started?

I don't think just stopping the job will do, most likely it will attempt to complete compact operation. Only killing the job process will stop it, however, it will attempt compact during the next job run.

Checked with QC, actually, compact operation should be stopped if you attempt to stop the job while it is underway and will be started again during the next job run.
