Configuring iSCSI on the Veeam Infrastructure Appliance

Post by cherzyk »

Hello all,

I have been experimenting with the VIA ISO a bit.
Now I am wondering, if I install the variant "with iSCSI & NVMe/TCP" the required drivers are installed, so far so good.

iSCSI configuration itself still needs to be done on the CLI?
Any plans to move that into the GUI or provide a tool?

Thanks in advance

Hi cherzyk,

There are plans to extend the storage management capabilities of the Veeam Appliances in our upcoming 13.1 release.

For current versions, as the Infrastructure Appliance supports iscsi for Backup from Storage Snapshot, typically nothing needs to be configured manually on the appliance everything is handled automatically when adding a storage system.

Hi David,

It is supported backup via NVMe-over-TCP in current VIA version 13.0.1 ?
either Backup from storage snapshot or direct SAN backup

Thanks

thanks, but not sure if understand it right...

I am trying these scenarios with these results so far:

1. backup from storage snapshot via iSCSI - working well
2. direct SAN backup via iSCSI - not supported or need some manual config on VIA ?
3. backup from storage snapshot via NVMe-TCP - not working. Maybe missing support for NVMe-TCP in Pure Storage for FlashArray plug-in fo VBR (using newest version 2.1.400)?
4. direct SAN backup via NVMe-TCP - not supported or need some manual config on VIA ?

Could you clarify it, please ?

Hi nesj11,

1. ++
2. Please see the supported connection methods here
3. Correct, the storage plugin development is vendor driven, I believe we're still waiting on an update from Pure for the plugin to support NVMe-TCP
4. Not supported for DirectSAN, only Backup from Storage Snapshot

Off the top of my head no. However, we will publish a KB when it is released (or update the existing KB), and you can get alerted to KB updates through the KB RSS Feed.
