Copy of a Veeam backup

Post by Ripthorn »

We currently backup to a Western Digital My cloud, all successfully. Then once a week I run a sync to copy the files to another WD Mycloud, which is usually kept off-site. However when I run the sync about 16 files (37.6gb) aren't copied as those files are being used by another process.
Questions then:

1) Do I just stop the services(?) of Veeam on the server in order to be able to copy those locked files over.

2) Is this a good/correct method to make a second, offsite, copy. In the event would I be able to restore from this second copy (Yes, I should try it myself, but I guess I need to sort out question one first)?

Thank you for taking the time to read my query.

Hi Nigel,

The right way to follow 3-2-1 rule is to leverage backup copy job functionality. If you encounter the error during backup copy, then it's better to contact our technical support.

Thanks!

Apologies, I've just realised that it's the veem365 directory that is having issues with the syncing across to the second WD MyCloud. I don't need to worry about that, I'll remove that from the sync.

So my only questions lies with doing a restore from a copied backup image. I'm presuming (but will check when time allows) I can point Veeam to a different restore location?

Yes, all types of restore including restore to a different location is possible from backup copy.
