Cost of Veeam-compatible DRaaS?

Post by StoopidMonkey »

For those of you who are using DRaaS with Veeam, can you provide ballpark figures of what those solutions cost and how you feel about them? We're in a situation where we rarely have a need to fail over to a secondary site and while we have the building space to host resources the cost of a mirrored set of hardware and the licenses that go with it are pretty high. DRaaS seems like the right solution for a "once in five years" type of event.

Hello Chris

I assume its difficult to get a general answer. It heavenly depends on what hardware, network or storage solution someone is using in the Disaster Recovery site. The "mirrored set of hardware" could be a 1:1 mirror of your production side, but it could also include much less performant hardware.
Let's see if other customers can provide their feedback here. In case you don't get any answer, I suggest to reach out to our community in our community hub as well.

Best,

Is this DRaaS for a single organisation that you manage or are you asking as a service provider looking at multi-tenancy?

From a single domain with a handful of servers perspective, we pay four times the amount for DRaaS that we pay for VCC backup. Our provider allows 30 days running in DR without additional usage charges.
Some providers have online calculators. You need to think about the minimum resources you need while you are working in DR mode and how you are going to back up while running offsite.
As a user for the last five years, I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather have the hardware if it is an option.
