Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
Hi Mike, in the current version, you need to use a backup copy job for that. v10 will allow configuring GFS retention in regular backup jobs as well though.

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
can you provide more details?
how do i set this up ?
Do i still need a backup job if i do this? it seems redundant.

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
Mike, what are you seeking to achieve?
Do you want to have each backup created on monthly basis solely or, for instance, daily backups, which will be deleted, when retention hits
in conjunction with monthly points, which will stay as archive ones after retention is in place?

Currently yes, you need both the backup job and the linked backup copy to another location. It is not redundant if you think of the 3-2-1 rule.

Then foggy is right, in current VBR version it can be done with Backup Copy Job only.
Have a look at this wizard to set up GFS retention policy as you described.

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job

ie:HPE StoreOnce
12/4/2019 3:31:18 PM :: Restore point is located in Backup Copy target repository and cannot be used as a source

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
It can be the same storage but a separate repository. Keep in mind that in case of StoreOnce it is a bit tricky.

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
the syntax on the command is very confusing
-Folder storeonce://storeonce_fqdn:objectstore_name@/subfolder_name
"Replace storeonce://storeonce_fqdn with the short name and FQDN of the StoreOnce appliance"
"Replace objectstore_name with StoreOnce appliance name"
What the >?
can someone give me sample please?

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
If you just want to keep one months worth of backups, then yes 30 day retention will do this for you.
However, if you want to keep every a restore point for each month, then a GFS backup copy is the way to go.
In V9.5, the GFS option is only available in the copy job. Hopefully, V10 may change this to be in the backup job as well.
As mentioned above, create another backup repository on the same storage if necessary, then create a Backup copy job and select the number of monthly points to keep. Bear in mind that you will either need the same full backup space for every restore point unless you are using REFs then you will just need enough for the extra single full backup and space for incrementals and synthetic creation.

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
so what happens if i just created 2 separate catalyst stores will this not work ?
as opposed to having 2 folders under single HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Store.

Put there number of daily restore points you would like to have (those are independent from GFS restore points). Thanks!

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
No, as GFS restore points are created out of regular ones. Check this section of our User Guide for more information.
Thanks!

Re: create a reoccurring monthly backup job
See the KB1932 Forever Forward Incremental part at top of the article. The full backup is moving, so when it reaches a particular day it will be copied by GFS, I hope it helps. Thanks!
