Creating VBM from scratch (again)
I saw this post:
http://forums.veeam.com/powershell-f26/ ... 20568.html
I'm trying this out on Veeam Backup and Replication version 7.0.839 but getting an error and Windows Powershell 3.0.
I tried running the script but it seems to stop at:
$Data = [Veeam.Backup.Core.CBackupMetaGenerator]::GenerateMeta($Backup)
Could it be the powershell version or the Veeam error?
The backup I have only contained the VBK file with the VBM missing. I need to restore some files from this backup.
Thanks in advance.

Hello John,
In order to restore VM files/Guest OS files you don't need to have VBM file. Can you please elaborate a bit more on why do you want to re-create this file?
Thank you!

Re: Creating VBM from scratch (again)
I am missing the VBM file and I'm getting an error when I try to restore the VBK file from Veeam using the Import Backup tool.
Here's the error:
Dir failed, storageFilename 'P:\filename.vbk'
All instances of the storage metadata are corrupted.
We are missing the vbm file so I tried restoring from vbk only.
The file is over 2.7TB.
I wonder if the file corrupted.
Thanks.

VBM file presence has nothing to do with this error message. Where did you copy this file from?

Re: Creating VBM from scratch (again)
It was from an old backup we had copied for storing offsite.
It may have been a Windows copy instead of a Veeam Backup Copy.
It was a backup made in version 6.5.

Re: Creating VBM from scratch (again)
Do you still have an offsite copy present? Can you compare the check sum of these files?
On top of that, I would recommend contacting our technical team to review debug logs and detect the reason why this file returns this error message.

We dont have the offsite copy anymore.
I did contact Veeam Support, we'll just have to take this as a lesson on our part.
Thanks.

Re: Creating VBM from scratch (again)
That's a sad lesson, but in order to protected from these situations in future, I would suggest adopting the 3-2-1 rule (3 backup copies, 2 different media, 1 different location). Keep us updated on the support engineer findings.
