Custom attributes for job inclusion?
Hi,
with the current state of affairs, VMware admins have to go into Veeam B&R (or tip their backup admin) to include/exclude VMs from backup jobs. Has anyone ever thought about using custom attributes to define which VMs should go into the backup?
This could be as simple as "BACKUP=1" (if there's only one job or) or "BACKUP=<JOBNAME>" (if there are multiple jobs).
That way, admins who are primarly concerned with the vSphere Client and vCenter could stay in their administrative domain when adding VMs to backup jobs. As the job result can populate custom attribute fields, the other way round (status feedback) is already taken care of.

Good morning to the "Faster than lightning PM"! Any ETA on such a feature? B&R 5 or rather later? Btw., what's the release target for version 5 again?

Good morning
Later, not in v5. But we have a number of strong advocates for this feature even internally, so I am sure the wait won't be too long
v5 should be released at the end of this quarter.

Gostev,
Has any more thought been put into this feature? This seems like best way to mange backup groups to me.

Hi Jeff, actually that's exactly what we did (put more thought into this feature), and we will most likely go ahead with a better way to deliver this kind of functionality. However, this functionality will not be a part of the upcoming v6 release. Thanks.
