Datadomain backup

Post by matteu »

Hello,

I have a customer with 2 datadomain dd6300.
All backup job have Datadomain1 as repository with ddboost.
Replication between Datadomain1 -> Datadomain2 is performed via Datadomain replication (no Veeam)
Datadomain2 is configured inside Veeam to be able to restore data if Datadomain1 has an issue but it's added as SMB.

I know it would be better to have Hardened linux repo as 1st backup and use DD as backup copy.

I would like to know if the actuel setup has some cons except very slow to restore / instant recovery ?
IS it an issue to import data from Datadomain2 as SMB instead of ddboost ? Or it's just not possible because Datadomain replication is used.

I already read : https://bp.veeam.com/vbr/2_Design_Struc ... omain.html

Hi matteu,

The only other consideration I can think of is just that I remember making the mtree replication target accessible requires a few extra steps, but aside from the performance considerations (which you appear to be aware of), only the backup chain length comes to mind. (120 max, just be sure to enable periodic full periodically)

I would also do some testing with the restores since you're exporting an SMB share since SMB connections can be a bit sensitive to any interruptions/drops.
