Dedupe and x86 and x64 version of Win Server

Post by kswan_expert »

Hi

We run Veeam Backup and Replication v6 and have a bunch of 2003 Std Edition x86 servers running as a backup job. We want to add a 2003 Ent edition x64 server for backup. Will we get any dedupe benefits for this server, or is it best to start a new job?

Also, are there best practices as to how many servers you should have in a job, or is it dependent on the size of the servers?

Thanks

Hi, sure - you will get dedupe even between any VMs at all (even Windows and Linux) as long as there is any files in common. The more servers you put into a job, the better dedupe ratio - just make sure you keep the backup size reasonable if you want to be able to move it around easily. Thanks.
