That is what I always thought. I think I am going to pull the trigger on the server. My retention is only 1 month on disk. I am going to use local disk for short term retention and fast recovery. I will also use an MD3000i for backup copy jobs and plan on using longer retention.

I'd recommend getting something with Veeam native integration is possible. My Quantum DXi finally has that now, so I'm working on getting that set-up. I've always been interested in Exagrid as well.
