Deinstall optional components
I'm just in the process in updating from 12.2 to 12.3 and as usual I have to do some post installation tasks.
Since veeam does not give the opportunity to select what has to be installed and since we do only own a standard license without e.g. thread hunter I have do deinstall a lot of stuff to keep the attack surface small. Also in my robo installations memory is somehow a concern.
So my question is: what components can be deinstallaed without loosing the core backup functionality (or the support for)
In the past I had no problems deinstalling the following components:
- AWS Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication
- Google Cloud Plug-In for Veeam Backup & Replication
- Kasten Plug-In for Veeam Backup & Replication
- Nutanix AHV Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication
- oVirt KVM Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication
- Proxmox Virtual Environment Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication
- Veeam Plug-ins for Enterprise Applications Redistributable
Is it also safe to deinstall these components:
- Veeam Threat Hunter
- Microsoft Entra ID Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication

Re: Deinstall optional components
Depends on what you mean by "core backup functionality".

Re: Deinstall optional components
For me (and perhaps for many others) it's being able to run backups in a vsphere/hyperv environment or by using veeam agents for different OS'es. That functionality veeam came from.

Re: Deinstall optional components
Can you please give us a list of veeam components that can be seen as optional (depending on individual usecase) and can be deinstalled.

Re: Deinstall optional components
I checked with QA and they don't specifically test product operation with one or more components uninstalled, so you can try to remove all unwanted components at your own risk (as you did with other components before). Worst case some operations will start failing and you can repair the installation. Thanks

Re: Deinstall optional components
In the vbr silent installation answer file "VbrAnswerFile_install.xml" there are options for
AHV_INSTALL No 0
Specify 1 if you want to install Nutanix AHV Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication. Specify 0 if you do not want to install the plugin.
...
RHV_INSTALL
AWS_INSTALL
AZURE_INSTALL
GCP_INSTALL
KASTEN_INSTALL
So I would expect that installations without these components are supported by veeam.
Can you please confirm this and second why are these options not visible in the installer?

Re: Deinstall optional components
Dear Gostev, I do not see an answer in your last post.
Veeam offers to not install some of the vbr components using silent install answer file but in your last answer I only find "..own risk..." or "...repair the installation". That sounds not supported. So is silent install supported (and thus also the remove of the mentioned components)?
Also the question is open why not the gui installer offers this.

Re: Deinstall optional components
All supported functionality is documented in the User Guide. Everything you can see there is of course fully supported.
You may also discover various other undocumented parameters and registry values, however it doesn't automatically mean Veeam "offers" these as officially supported capabilities. They may belong to some future or to some already deprecated functionality, added for QA usage only, etc.

Re: Deinstall optional components
If anyone is interested in stripping down their environment to the necessary services on their next install, here is the link to the user guide:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Fully supported as Gostev says. That's all I wanted to know....

Re: Deinstall optional components
Apologies, I thought your question was about Veeam Threat Hunter and Microsoft Entra ID Plug-in, my answers above were in that context.
