Delete Backup prior Job

Post by odi66 »

Hello,

is there a possibility to delete the oldest Backup prior the next Backupjob?

We have a Weekendjob with 2 TB (Fullbackup) and 2 Restorepoints.

Unfortunately we only have 1,7 TB free now and i have to delete the oldest snapshot every weekend by Hand.

I know my answer is not directly related to solve your request, but if I was you I'd really work to increase the number of restore points.
With only two restore points, if anything happens to your data and it's not immediately identified, you risk to have too quickly no valid restores.

Are you using rotating USB drives, or something similar?

Yes the job runs once a week, active full

And afterwards it ist backed up to Tape and put aside.
Thats the reason for not having incrementals
We likle to have the full backup on tape

You can trigger the pre-job script that would delete the required restore point prior the backup.

I suggest you to do some search in a PowerShell sub-forum maybe someone has already implemented such a script. In case nothing is found please feel free to open a new thread.

Have you considered using virtual full backup to tape? I believe it will fit your needs.

Thank you.

Very good Idea. but unfortunately we have to use "you-know-who 2010 R3  ", and "you-know-who 2010 R3  " is not sharing the Tape-device

The Fileserver is physical and therefore we need filebased backup

There is a cmdlet that allows you to delete a particular restore point, please check Example #3.

Have you considered using Veeam Endpoint Backup?

Thank you.
