Deleting incrementals

Post by Paul L »

Sorry if this has been answered, but my searches didn't return what I am looking for. What I need to do, is delete old incremental backups, but keep the fulls. We do incremental backups on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with a full on Friday. That works fine. But, what I want to do, is after the full is done on Friday, I want all the old incremental files to be deleted, keeping just the old fulls. We want to keep only the incrementals for the current week (up to four of them) and the last four Friday full backups. Is this possible?

Thanks.

Hi Paul, seems you're after GFS retention, so I recommend looking at the backup copy jobs.

Ok, thanks. I'll give that a try. Will that delete the incrementals off of the backup server, too, after the backup copy job is finished, or just the incrementals off the server where the backup copies are stored?

Backup copy job maintains its own backup chain, so the chain created by the source backup job will be kept according to its own retention.
