Dell EMC PowerScale A300 Archive Storage

Post by GianlucaCroci »

Hello,
we'd like to change the FileServer architecture and switch from the current "Windows Server 2016" (VMware VM) to expose the folders of the various departments directly from the Storage via SMB or NFS.

With this change we'll have to abandon the current backup jobs to switch to FileBackup.

But there may be another possibility. Backuping the Storage directly, that would be even better.

We've tried, but without success, if our "Dell EMC PowerScale A300 Archive Storage" is compatible with Veeam.

You can help us?

Thanks in advance for the replies.
Kind regards
Gianluca

Hi Gianluca,

If you're talking about File Share backup from storage snapshots, then Dell EMC PowerScale should be supported. However, may I ask you to clarify what exactly you mean by "We've tried, but without success"? Did you see an error message or another technical issue?

Thanks!

Hello Petr,

one possibility is to do a FileShare backup, but we'd like to backup directly from the Storage (Direct SAN access).
I can immagine that the performance will be better, and we can do a snap of the Storage. Hope this will help to backup the files opened.

Thanks.
Kind regards
Gianluca

For Direct SAN access (VMware transport mode), please check this page with the requirements and limitations for SAN mode. It must work as long as all the requirements are met. If you're talking about backup from a storage snapshot, then only file share backup is possible.

Thanks!
