Design Question - 1 x AD/File + 1 x Hyper-V

Post by pracer »

Good day,

I want to make the backup with Veeam in the future.

Available:
Server01 = File / AD / Print
Server02 = HyperV Host
NAS & RDX as backup destination

How should the design look like?
Installing Veeam BR Management on Server01 or Server02?

And how to make a bare-metal recovery in a worst case scenario?

Thanks for your support.

Hello,

The recommendation would be to put your backup server to the least loaded server. Also it would make sense to install it where RDX/NAS is currently mounted to.

As regards the bare-metal recovery, then Veeam Backup & Replication doesn't do it, however if you're concerned on protected not only VMs, but other servers too, I would recommend taking a look at Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. This product allows doing the BMR.

Thank you!

Hello Vitaly,

thanks!

Veeam BR and Veeam Agent Windows on Server A (AD & File) = ok?
Or better Server A = Agent and Server B (HyperV) = Veeam BR?

Thank you!

Veeam Agent for Windows was designed to protect physical server workloads, so I would put it on Server01. Feel free to place Veeam B&R to the Hyper-V host, in this case two applications will distribute the workload.
