Detecting OS Version - TCP Port Requirement
Hi guys,
Just wanted to provide some feedback.
I'm working on a large Veeam implementation on Telstra Cloud where network ACL's are fairly stringent.
While deploying the Veeam Proxy role I'm seeing a warning message when 'Detecting OS Version'. Upon deeper inspection it appears that TCP 49157 is missing from the Veeam B&R User Guide, for Veeam Backup Server to Veeam Proxy Server communication. The network ACL's implemented here are perfect as per the Veeam User Guide.
Can somewhere confirm the Detecting OS Version requirement please?
Page 5 of this document highlights the issue I have witnessed.

Please update the user guide accordingly.
Thanks

Hi, Darryl, I have passed this information to the QA team. Let me update the topic once I have more information. Thanks.

Re: Detecting OS Version - TCP Port Requirement
Additional update, I have found that TCP port 49154 is actually required.
This is a full Server 2012 R2 Veeam installation, I'm not sure if port 49157 I described previously is specific to Server 2008 R2 or not.

Re: Detecting OS Version - TCP Port Requirement
Most likely the entire dynamic RPC port range (49152-65535) is required here, not a single port or two of them.

Re: Detecting OS Version - TCP Port Requirement
As far as I know, this port, or more specifically, the whole range 49152-65535, should be opened for proper communication of the Veeam backup server with the runtime coordination process responsible for Application Aware Image Processing activity. Do you see that Dynamic RPC port range should be opened for "backup server -> backup proxy" communications, as well?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Detecting OS Version - TCP Port Requirement
No mention of the RPC port range for Backup Server > Backup Proxy communications.
The only section in the user guide which talks about the RPC range is the VM Guest OS Connections:
"The following table describes network ports that must be opened to ensure proper communication of the Veeam Backup server with the runtime coordination process deployed inside the VM guest OS for application-aware image processing and indexing"

Darryl, documentation will be updated to reflect that one of the dynamic RPC ports is required for backup server connection to any Windows server, including backup proxy. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi,
Still no update on the ports page. Was bumping into this when detecting a warning with detecting OS version on a proxy.
