Different backup schedules for full and incremental parts

Post by Mutley »

Hi,

I am currently doing an Incremental backup of a couple of ESXi VM's with the option ticked for a weekly full at the weekend. Is it possible to set different start times for the incremental and full parts within this job?

I'd thought about having one job that does a weekly full backup, and a separate job for the daily incrementals, but would that cause issues given that Veeam wont know that the data for the two jobs relate to each other and are different chains?

No, this is not possible currently. One thing you can do is start job from the script during on the full backup day, instead of having the job scheduler start it.

There will be no issues - just two completely different backup job chains unaware of each other.

Thanks Anton,

Bit worried about having two separate jobs though. If the two chains don't know about each other, wont I have issues trying to backup or recover data from the incremental chain if it doesn't have a full backup to reference in its chain?

I like the idea of using a script. I'll look into that.

Of course, every chain will have its own full backup, because we are talking about two different jobs.

[MERGED] Run a backup job at different times

Post by GL@MO »

Hi Veeam team and it's users who decided for a great software.

Is there a possibility to run incremental backups at e.g. 18.00 on weekdays and a full backup at 14.00 on Saturdays?
Otherwise this would be a little feature request. On weekends there may be a possibility that employees are working in the morning but in the afternoon I want to make a backup directly and asap :-) be prepared for a "case of". :)

Your best chance is to have a powershell script to change the scheduled time of the job on saturday, and then revert the time again after the full backup.

Here is a PowerShell script you should use to trigger a full backup job pass. Just schedule this script to run on Saturday 14.00 via Windows Task Scheduler, while keeping Veeam job scheduler off for this day.

[MERGED] Job Scheduling

Post by BHB3805 »

Our current backup schedule is to backup all VMs daily incremental with the exception of Friday, when a Full backup is performed.
The backups, regardless of the type start at the same time of day (i.e. 7:00PM).
I would like the full backups to start earlier.
If I remove the full backup from the current job and create a new backup job for the full backup how is the retention policy affected?

I'd really like to see something like this added to the software. I have a very small window to run the full backups over the weekend but during the week the incrementals can run much later.
