Direct LUN Snapshots 3PAR
Dear All
Maybe my question is quite stupid, but i dont find a solution for this.
We have 2 LUNs on our 3PAR which contain UserData (No VMs) and are presented directly to a physical host as Drives (Not the Gateway Server of Veeam).
What is the best practice to Backup this Data? I know, one possibility would be to Install VEEAM Endpoint Agent on the Host and Keep Backing up the Files this way. But as VEEAM is able to Create 3PAR Snapshots of Volumes with VMs on it, isnt there a possibility to force a Snapshot of a LUN directly?
Thank you for your help.
Best Regards
Manuel

Re: Direct LUN Snapshots 3PAR
Hi,
Why won't you just use File Copy job instead? Using storage snapshots to backup user data is a little bit of overkill, not to mention that snapshots are not backups.
Thanks

Dear PTide
Thank you for your quick reply.
I also thought about File Copy Job, but i dont see any possibilty to define, how much restore Points i want to Keep. Also, im not Able to Add a Copy Job allocated to this Job. Its a requirement, that we can Archive weekly backups of this data.
Thanky you very much!

Hi Manuel,
Moreover snapshot-only jobs for 3PAR are not supported for now.
(If that is what you're after)
Thanks!

[MERGED] file backup from storage snapshot?
Is there any chance that file backup from storage snapshot would be on the Veeam roadmap at all?
I have a physical server with multiple directly attached 3par virtual volumes mounted as standard disks on the server. I have 3par snapshots in place and tape backup twice a week.
Was just thinking that it would be really nice to do the tape backup from the 3par snapshot rather than taking the data from the live volume. the backups take over 24 hours to run using 2 LTO6 FC drives.
Any thoughts / info?
I guess I could right a script to mount the latest 3par snapshots to the tape proxy and back them up.. ??
Thanks
Nathan

Hi Dmitry
Thank you for your Response.
See my post before: Isnt there a possibility to Link a Copy Job to a FileCopy Job (So we can handle different retentions)?
What would be the recommended way to save this?
Best regards
Manuel

Manuel, there's no such possibility, so a better approach would be to use Veeam Endpoint Backup for this.

There is always a chance, provided that there will be plenty of requestsIs there any chance that file backup from storage snapshot would be on the Veeam roadmap at all?
Yes, that should work.I guess I could right a script to mount the latest 3par snapshots to the tape proxy and back them up.. ??
