Disable Remote RDP (windows) access on the VBR Backup Repositories/Databases.

Post by debouy007 »

I am new to VBR and I have been given these tasks. I have researched best way, please can someone kindly point me in the right direction?

I need to Disable Remote RDP (windows) access on the Backup Repositories/Databases.

Ssh (unix) must be limited to backup admin;

root should not be allowed remote ssh (only console),only created backup admin account with use of sudo if necessary

Thanks guys

Hi Lateef, welcome to the forums.

I don't think that any of these are Veeam specific items, and I believe a quick search online should answer your question. For example, RDP access for Windows is simply under Control Panel > System, restricting root access is done by editing /etc/sshd_config on the host you want to disallow root login over SSH on, etc.

You may want to check our Best Practices Guide focusing on the section on Security for addition advice and tips for hardening. For the required permissions for various operations, you'll want to check this link for VM backups and this Knowledge Base article for Veeam Agent for Linux backups.

But for your questions, I'm not sure these have to do specifically with Veeam, and you can follow the hardening guidelines from the respective vendors.

Thanks!

@debouy007 as @david.domask said these are not Veeam specific features. There more like Operating System access methods. for RDP please see link - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windo ... mendations for ubuntu here is a link - https://www.veerotech.net/kb/how-to-dis ... and%20exit. Always be careful when modifying any configuration file in Linux. Make sure you copy the file to have a backup :D
