DIY Cloud Backup Repository

Post by steve.bird »

Hello.
We have an external company that provides our cloud storage for Veeam B&R. they're becomming expensive. We wondered if we could run our own DIY Cloud Repository.
what software would we need to run on a server somewhere to duplicate the services of the cloud providor?

Hi Steve,

- becoming a self-Cloud Connect provider is a valid option, however it has a list of requirements to become so(company requirements, special licenses etc). Best to contact Veeam Sales reps for discussion of the process.
- being a Cloud Connect provider also brings costs for supporting underlying infrastructure - it's not just about storage, but hosting an additional CC Server, Cloud Gateway servers etc. It might not cost less than your current offering at the end.
- before going the "self-CC" path, please consider checking Veeam Cloud Connect Providers lookup page - we have hundreds of them, with quite a bit of competition in pricing between them, so you can easily find a more cost effective option, of that I'm sure.
- last but not least, if it's just about Cloud Storage, Veeam has built-in capabilities of transferring backups to the object storage of choice. Which might be a valid alternative for Cloud Connect Backup depending on your requirements list.

/Hope that helps!
