I can use Veeam to backup our VM's just fine to our Veeam backup server's local storage and then we do some weekly or monthly jobs to get the data to tape for off-site storage.
We also have a SAN which our VM's use for their storage (not much data on the VM hosts local storage).
We've been comtemplating backing up the entire SAN vs individual VMs.
The question I have is:
Can I use Veeam B&R to backup our SAN which uses NDMP to our disk-based repository on our backup server?
I ask because everything I come across seems to only mention backing up a NDMP server directly to tape. I'm looking to backup our SAN to disk. Then weekly do a copy job to copy that backup to tape.

Re: Does NDMP work to disk-based repository (not tape)?
Nope, you cannot backup SAN storage a whole. You can select a datastore as a source for backup job, but it will be used mostly as container, while backup server will still back up individual VMs.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you're contemplating backing up the entire SAN, chances are you're thinking about autoprotection for newly created VMs. In this case the solution might be to select the whole host or vCenter as backup source. Thanks!
