Ok, Ok, I know shame on me, I got complacent and didn't check my DC event logs for about 6 weeks. Naturally 4 weeks ago that server stopped replicating the A/D database.
I was concerned with doing a restore of the VM because the A/D database would be old and would something (like a deleted user that was deleted after the replication stopped) replicate back into my A/D?
So I chose to just build a new DC.
Any thoughts on restoring a DC from that far back?

Re: Domain controller restore
Darhl, do you have other DCs in your environment which are fine ?
If yes, was your DC backup created with Veeam VSS intergration enabled?
If yes, then it is totally OK to restore. DC restore with Veeam are non-authoritative, meaning that the restored DC will get all directory information it missing for last 6 weeks from other DCs after restore (instead of "forcing" its own state to all other DCs, as in case of authoritative restore).
More information on DC restore can be found in my whitepaper:
http://www.veeam.com/vmware_and_vss_apl ... ry_wpp.pdf
And in this blog post with videos (about the same content, but with videos):

Hope this helps!

Re: Domain controller restore
Yeah, that does help.
We do have multiple DCs, and they are backed up with Veeam VSS.
I knew I should have asked first, but my boss was all over me to get this DC back online.
That article is great! I'm reading through it now!
