Domino Freeze Process Veeam Vs VRaner

Post by GBSB »

We use Veeam in some regions and VRanger in others.
Our intention is to standardise on one product in future, one of the discussions is the ability to backup Lotus Domino DB's.
With Veeam we use the freeze scripts which stop the Domino Service and then restart it after snapshot, the teams using VRanger tell me that this is not required with VRanger, any comments, I will continue to research, I really want to understand this better.
My own view is towards Veeam, but as we are a Notes house could be a decider.

Any comments / links to information thankfully received.

I think they simply make crash consistent backups while you are not.
You could also remove your freeze scripts and go like them.
I know many companies making crash consistent backups of their Notes servers without any problem when they need to restore...

If I were you, I would also look at the futur of vRanger. Ask Dell for that, don't they have two overlaping products (AppAssure vs VRanger) ? What are their plans ? It would be bad to go with a product that would be soon merged into another one or worse...

You missed NetVault (former Bakbone). Dell now has 3 overlapping backup products which are doing the same thing. It's going to be fun!
