DR to Azure

Post by lowlander »

Hi,

we are reviewing a Disaster Recovery solution using Veeam with HPE Cloud Volumes Backup.

In case of a disaster we want to restore virtual machines in a CVB repository to Microsoft Azure as fast as possible.
- what can we expect of restore performance in TB/hour ?
- Is it possible to connect a CVB repository to a Veeam Backup for Azure instance in Azure and do the restore ? OR should we install a new instance of VBR in Azure and perform a restore after connecting the HPE Cloud Volume Backup repository.

Last question, is it possible to connect the same HPE Cloud Volume Backup repository to the VBR server on-premises AND a public cloud veeam instance as Veeam Backup for Azure/VBR in Azure ?

Looks like this HPE Cloud Volume Backup repository are connected as storeonce appliances. Veeam Backup for Azure cannot connect to a storeonce appliance by itself.
You need a vbr server in the cloud to connect to the HPE Cloud volume in case of disaster recovery.
Or you can use VM Restore to azure from your onpremise vbr server, but then the data will be downloaded to the onpremise vbr server and back to the azure cloud.

I have found a kb article from veeam about the support of this HPE Cloud Volume:
https://www.veeam.com/kb3143

You should get in contact with HPE to get the information about possible bandwidth and latency limitations.
