Email notification levels on a per job basis

Post by cby »

I'm pretty sure there is no facility to do so in version 5 (not upgraded to 6 yet) but am I right in thinking that notification at successful/warning/failure levels is only available on a global basis?

Ideally we would like to issue backup status notifications at different levels on a per job basis. So, for example, operator group1 receive notification of warnings/failures for all 99 backup jobs (set at global level). Whereas operator group2 receive notification of successful/warning/failure backups for jobs 3 & 22 (set at job level).

Clearly not an urgent requirement and I know it can be addressed by setting global notification for all 3 levels and running local mail client filtering (or mail server filter?) but that's a lot of redundant mail!

Grateful for any other suggestions.

This is possible with v5, you can setup notification recipients at job level (not just globally) in the advanced job settings. Thanks!

Anton

Thanks for the response.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. It's not just the different recipients that I want to set up but also the different levels of backup outcome (success/warning/failure) per job. Currently I can only see this in the global notification options.

Ah, OK. No, there is no such functionality on per-job level.

One of the great things about Veeam is that if it can't be done out of the box, then they give you a way to achieve it via other means :) give me a short while and we'll have something for you.

Not a Reg hack but I'm writing that feature for you and will make a little app that will do what you need :)

Just about done but last question is will you be using it on v5 or v6? as the reports will be a little different for each version

Thomas

v5, though we hope to upgrade to v6 at some stage.

When you say 'report' this implies that there is a post-job process that issues job outcome to appropriate mail recipients. Am I way off the beam?

Thanks.

That is correct, the levels are

Global(Success/Warning/Failure)
Job Default(Success/Warning/Failure)
Per Job(Success/Warning/Failure)

The new job import function will setup the job with a post job command(if the job already has a post job command then the app will import this and fire it after we are done)

Got two jobs that get e-mail notifications sent to client when they complete, whatever the outcome. When it fails, they raise ticket with out support desk

Is it possible to make it e-mail only when successful ? Powershell or something

Thanks

Hi Petrit,

Yes, you can specify on what backup status you want to receive notifications on via General Options -> Email settings of the backup console.

Thanks!

Hi Vitaliy

Thanks but that is at top level for all the Jobs running on the BR server. What I have is 6 jobs, and 2 of them notify client. Is it possible to modify at Job level at all ?

Cheers

There is no such setting in the backup console, however you may want to use Veeam ONE to notify your clients on the job level. Hope this helps!

Been so long since I looked at this script, I'm sure v5 report was completed but never got around to adding in the rest, if anyone would want to take over it I would be happy to send them the code
