Enabling HA and DRS in cluster

Post by vijay.mc968 »

Hi folks

we have esxi 5.5 cluster with 3 hosts and around 600 Windows/Linux servers are running over this cluster. We had only enable DRS before and that was also manual. Now we are going to enable HA and DRS will be turned to fully automated. Just curies our Veeam backup server (version 7.0) how will it treat these VMs since VMs will be moving around these 3 hosts. What precautions we should take with point of veeam before enable DRS to automatic ?

Just use vCenter to add VMs into jobs (as opposite to individual ESXi hosts), this will make Veeam B&R aware of all migrations between hosts.

Yes I am doing this for new VMs I am adding to veeam, but what about old VMs we already have added? I am not sure how these were added, will I have to re-add them ?

Yes, you can re-add them and map to existing backup files, however expect full job runs for those that were added via standalone hosts after doing so.
