Enterprise Manager upgrade to v10 - what will happen
I know I read about this somewhere but now I can't find it. If I update Enterprise Manager to v10 with the new license, when will it push the license to its connected servers? When it detects they are on the same version? I suppose it must work like that but I feel I must get it verified...

Hi Daniel,
EM manager will try to push the license key as a part of its regular routine. The license key update will fail on these managed backup servers, but you will still have enough time to upgrade your Veeam backup servers (depending on what license type you have installed in the backup server).
Thanks!

How much time is that? Do you mean that it will leave the VBR servers in a grace period?

I meant to say that your Veeam B&R servers will remain with the license file that was previously pushed to them, EM will not be able to update a key. Hope it clarifies the upgrade procedure!

We use Veeam Enterprise manager v9.5 to licence our VBR servers, do I need to :
- upgrade Veeam Enterprise manager to v10 ? to licence VBR 10 ? (I think yes)
- uprade all VBR to v10 after the upgrade of Veeam Enterprise manager to v10 ? (I hope no...)
Thanks you in advance for your help

Hi Sébastien,
I've moved your post to the existing thread with the discussions about Enterprise Manager upgrade.

- Yes, you will need to uprade EM;
- No, it's not required to update all VBR instances immediately, but you won't have a possibility to manage licenses for VBR v9.5 servers after you update Enterprise Manager to v10.

Hi Natalia,
Thanks for the answer, just to be sure for the second point:
If I don't upgrade all VBR after EM upgrade, they keep the existing licence installed but I will not be able to add more VBR in 9.5, is it right ?
Or existing VBR will lose their licences ?

Hi Sébastien,
You are right, VBR servers v9.5 will use previously pushed licenses, they will not lose the licenses.
But you will not be able to update the license for VBR 9.5 with the updated EM v10.
Thanks!

Re: Enterprise Manager upgrade to v10 - what will happen
Hello,
I have one question more regarding licensing for v10.
My licences are for version 9.5 Enterprise in socket mode, can I upgrade it to 10 Enterprise socket mode ? (We have maintenance)
Or do I need to change it to VUL license and to pay for it ?
Thank you in advance for your help

Hi Sébastien,
Socket-based licensing is still available for purchase and renewal, so it's not mandatory to migrate to VUL.
You can check VUL details in our blog post:

Thanks!Perpetual Socket-based licensing is not going away! It still remains an option for customers looking to protect VMware and Hyper-V VMs on premises. With VUL, Per-Socket customers will get more flexibility in merging Per-Socket licenses with VUL Per-Workload licenses. With v10, you will be able to install both licenses in the product without the need to match editions. However, just like before, be aware that the Socket license edition will dictate the feature capability of the entire environment — so now is a great time to migrate that Socket license to VUL for more features and improved flexibility!
