Error during the Veeam-Backup of the Virtual Center 2.5 VM

Post by schedlbauerm »

About 1 minute after ther Veeam Backup of the Virtual Center 2.5 U4 VM starts, I get the following error message:

Retrieving file list
VCB error: Error: Cannot create directory C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Administrator.LRA-DEG\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp\veeamvcbd475950c-0ff6-4029-a38f-161149a77fd3 An error occurred, cleaning up...

I am able to make a VMWare Consolidated Backup of this VM, but not a VeeamBackup.

I don't have problems with Veeam-Backups of any other VM.

Is ther something I must be aware of when making a Veeam-Backup of a VM on which the Virtual Center 2.5 U4 is running ?

Hello Martin, this error does not relate to VM content at all. Please redirect the %TEMP% OS environment variable to another folder on Veeam Backup server (C:\TEMP for example), and try again. If you need any help, please contact our support. Thank you.

Hello,

Do you mean the user or the system variables.

The path for the system variable was/is c:\windows\temp.
The path for the user varibales for the user administrator is now c:\temp and was before %USERPROFILE%\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp.

But now I still get the following error messages during the VeeamBackup (with VCB):

Retrieving file list
VCB error: Canceling, please wait... Error: Could not back up config file: [Vol005_ESX] Server-VC/Server-VC.vmx An error occurred, cleaning up...

or

Retrieving file list
VCB error: Error: Could not write unmount information An error occurred, cleaning up...

This problem only occurs on a single VM on which the Virtual Center Server 2.5 is installed.

Perhaps the following info is useful:

In the eventlog of the vm the following error message:

Ereignistyp: Fehler
Ereignisquelle: SQLVDI
Ereigniskategorie: Keine
Ereigniskennung: 1
Datum: 30.06.2009
Zeit: 15:10:06
Benutzer: Nicht zutreffend
Computer: SERVER-VC
Beschreibung:
SQLVDI: Loc=CVDS::Cleanup. Desc=Release(ClientAliveMutex). ErrorCode=(288)Es wurde versucht, einen Mutex freizugeben, der nicht im Besitz des Aufrufers war.
. Process=1780. Thread=2140. Client. Instance=. VD=.

is logged after the VeeamBackup stops with an error.

Also, I believe that in order to backup Virtual Center running in VM, you need to add ESX host running this VM as standalone host to Veeam Backup (using IP address), and backup this VM with a separate job. In other words, you cannot backup Virtual Center running in VM with backup job configured to use this Virtual Center. I believe this is known issue, but support will be able to tell you for sure.
