Estimate backup size of Application aware backups

Post by BoRiisDK »

Hello,

When estimating backup storage consumption it is well defined when only using VM backups with a certain retention. But how do I (gu)estimate what additional backup storage is used when enabling Application aware backups?

Hi Aalborg,

Welcome to Veeam Community Forums and thanks for posting.

AAIP itself does not impact the backup size. There is no need to perform additional calculations.

Thanks

Hi wishr,

Do you say that no additional data is stored when using AAIP?

Where does the SQL hourly backup data go then?

Hi,

SQL T-logs backups is a separate question :) AAIP just implies you get a backup made with VSS.

SQL T-logs data, of course, will require additional space on the repository, but there is no methodology for its calculation. You may play with the initial backup sizes and perform a calculation based on the initial T-log backup sizes specific to your environment.

Thanks

Also, here's a handy tool for backup size calculation.
